In response to the great spiritual challenges confronting older adults, Hiddur: The Center for Aging and Judaism has created Sacred Seasons: Jewish Spiritual Resources for Elders. Elders who face loss, isolation, frailty and mortality are particularly in need of spiritual solace. Ritual and holiday observance offers elders a vitally important context for creating meaning, strengthening social and religious connections, and obtaining support. Sacred Seasons addresses the spiritual needs of Jewish elders by enabling them to celebrate Shabbat, holidays and other sacred occasions. Sacred Seasons celebration kits have been developed to address the needs of Jewish elders in residential care settings. We plan in the future to create resources for elders in home and community settings, as well.
