Sacred Seasons celebration kits are a means of bringing joy and meaning to Jewish elders in residential settings such as nursing homes, assisted living facilities and continuing care retirement communities. The kits are appropriate for Jewish individuals from a range of backgrounds and are adaptable for frail or well elders. Research shows that religious involvement has a positive impact on elders’ physical and emotional health. Sacred Seasons can improve well-being for elders navigating the spiritual challenges of loss, isolation, frailty and mortality.
Sacred Seasons builds on the long experience of Hiddur: The Center for Aging and Judaism and the Reconstructionist Rabbinical College in training rabbis to serve an aging Jewish community. The design of the celebration kits has been honed through field-testing and through placement in demonstration sites across North America. (See our history section for a list of demonstration sites)

Established in 2003, HIDDUR: The Center for Aging and Judaism draws its name from the biblical command: “Bring glory (hiddur) to the elders.” (Leviticus 19:32). In its efforts to transform the culture of aging, HIDDUR advances scholarship, trains rabbis, and, through national programs and resources, draws upon Jewish tradition to enhance and ennoble the lives of Jews as they age.
